Our Signature Sussex Sparkling

“Our Blanc de Noirs is the wine Sarah and I set out to produce at Rathfinny. It’s our signature wine, a wonderful blend of predominantly Pinot Noir with a small quantity of Pinot Meunier.” Mark Driver, Co-owner of Rathfinny

2019 Blanc de Noirs Remi Le Gavroche Bar Tasting

Tasting Note

A rose gold hue and nose of sweet Russet apples. A mouth-filling palate of summer fruits with a long, zesty, saline, plum compôte finish.

Da Terra Blanc de Noirs Food Pairing

This vintage pairs exquisitely with lamb or charcuterie, or strawberries and cream. With winter in mind, why not try baked ham with cranberry sauce or roast duck with all the trimmings.

Chosen by the Masters

“Appealing gold colour with fine bubbles. The nose is charming and attractive. Lots of red fruits going on, from strawberry, raspberry and redcurrants to cherry Griotte. The wine shows a stony minerality. The palate is really refreshing, with a sharp and clean acidity but as well a certain roundness in the mouth. A glass calls another!” Remi Cousin, Sommelier, Le Gavroche

“Big bubbles! A smoky and smouldering nose, a weighty and smouldering wine. Voluminous. Oranges, lime and stone. Beautifully ripe acidity sculpted into a curve. Rathfinny know how to deliver broad power with a burnish of magnificence.” 17 points. Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com

The 2019 growing season had a flying start with average daily temperatures of 16°C within the seven-day bud-burst period, resulting in the earliest completion date ever recorded at Rathfinny. Propelled by continued warmth in June, flowering was completed in just a few days. Temperatures remained above average throughout the rest of the summer months, including record-breaking heat during late July.

Aside from the warmth, rainfall was higher than normal during harvest, but disease pressure was low due to effective vineyard management throughout the year. Chardonnay performed particularly well with a corresponding increase in the varietal yield due to our newly adopted pruning technique and served to complement the Pinot varieties in the 2019 Classic Cuvée and Rosé blends. All grapes were hand harvested and whole-bunched pressed, displaying the perfect balance of sugar and acidity in line with Sussex PDO requirements.
