Introducing Rathfinny 2018 Blanc de Blancs

Crafted in the Traditional Method from Chardonnay grapes, the Blanc de Blancs is a true reflection of the 2018 vintage at the Rathfinny Wine Estate, brought to life by the saline inflection from the coastal terroir.

“This Blanc de Blancs is a truly beautiful wine from the incredible 2018 vintage. Thankfully, our Chardonnay grapes benefit from our Vineyard’s chalky soils and proximity to the sea, and it’s that sense of place that shines through in this wine that pairs so naturally with freshly sourced seafood from the British Isles.” Sarah Driver, Rathfinny Co-owner.

2018 VINTAGE

Often referred to as the vintage of the decade, 2018 was one of the warmest summers on record. A mini heatwave developed from April onwards, bringing on early flowering and the dry weather promoted good fruit set. New temperature records were set in July and August and despite heavy rain in early September, the weather during harvest in October was very favourable and we picked very clean fruit with an ideal balance of sugars and acidity for our Sussex sparkling wines.

“A rather fruity nose shows off hints of lime and Granny Smith apple, but also notions of ripe stone fruit. The palate is slender, has fine, soft and lively mousse but most striking is the fresh balance that shows off 2018’s ripeness – yes, there is wonderful English acidity, but it is ripe and rounded and juicy, making this an incredibly harmonious wine. The perfect summer aperitif in fact.” Anne Krebiehl MW, Falstaff
