Rathfinny Wine Estate

Yoga Retreat / Treat

IMG_1697A couple of weeks ago I had a new experience at Rathfinny.  I came along as a ‘client’ to our very first yoga retreat, arriving at the Flint Barns in the early afternoon on Friday to be greeted by a delicious smoothie as I met the others who had decided that they too, needed a weekend away.  There were 9 of us in total, a mix of local people and a couple who had made the journey all the way from Belgium, as well as my 17 year old son who decided he too needed an ‘escape’ from his A level revision.

What a treat it was!  From someone who does a lot of yoga, I was bowled over by Lucy’s approach that calmly led us through our various sessions, combining moves for both the beginner and the experienced (2 of whom were training to be teachers themselves).  I was introduced to Yoga Nidra for the first time, that took relaxation to a new level, and we also spent some time chanting which I loved, though I smiled to myself at the thought of Mark walking in on us and what he would say!  All of this took place in the stunning setting of the Tasting Room, as we watched the morning glow creep through the vines or the evening sun as it set across the hills.  Totally perfect.

Alongside all of this the team at the Flint Barns pampered us with healthy, delicious food and I’m still wondering how that avocado and chocolate mousse tasted so good.  Each meal we shared at the large square table, passing locally made, gorgeous food between us, sipping on Cradle Valley, as we whiled away the time.  In the afternoons there was the choice of a tour and tasting, curling up with a good book or, for one lunatic – a 17 mile run!!

On the Saturday evening Jane Green, our local famous astronomer came and gave us a wonderful insight into the stars above.  To be honest, I’ve never really grasped the galaxies but I was totally absorbed by Jane’s really accessible talk and we were all thrilled to be able to see the moon, Jupiter – with 4 moons off to the side, Saturn – with an amazing ring around it and Mars.

All of us left feeling we had shared something really special that weekend.  If you’re interested in coming along to our next one, to see what I mean, then do contact us at flintbarns@rathfinnyestate.com
