We have been giving our Trail a recent facelift (see my forthcoming blog for more details) and I took a wander about. The lower section of the Rathfinny Trail passes along the base of Cradle Valley and near to a building associated with the local water authority. A rather normal looking brick structure which had a rather obvious spider attached to it!
Using my spider sense I knew that this was either a spider in the wrong place or it was not present in class during the lesson on camouflage.
This is Tibellus oblongus or in simple plain English a grass spider. During these drier months the pale colour blends with the long grasses – or allows you to stand out in an area of brick!
