Sun brings out beer drinkers…

P1010504

Why the long face?  Not the prettiest specimen to adorn our vine rows but an interesting one.  This long snouted hoverfly has been given the common name of the Heineken Fly – as it can reach parts of a flower that others can not reach!  The scientific name for this orange bellied beauty is Rhingia campestris.  Its close relative Rhingia rostrata does not have the black lines on the belly (abdomen).

I promise that my next macro photograph will be clearer!
