Rathfinny Wine Estate

Poaceae

Please don’t get me wrong – flowering plants at this time of year are stunning around our Trail and around the vineyard.  However, we sometimes forget to miss the staple plant which so many species depend upon – grass.  This is just a snap shot which contains (I guess) around 10 species of grass that I can identify.  Next time you are around, take some time to enjoy the grasses.  There’s soft feathery ones (Timothy), ones which look like mini arable crops (False oat) and then the thin tiny specimens which hug the ground like a green mat (Fescues).
