Rathfinny Wine Estate

From London to Hong Kong!

We’ve had a lovely two week ‘pop-up’ at the incredible Ham Yard Hotel in Soho, part of the Firmdale Hotels group and what a treat it was for all involved. Exclusive tickets to their gorgeous roof top garden saw a real mix of people coming to taste what Rathfinny had to offer. There was our Blanc de Blancs and Rosé Sussex Sparkling and Cradle Valley wine alongside cocktails, developed by Eoin Kenny, Firmdale’s Group Mixologist, using our
Seven Sisters Gin with an emphasis on using English and Sussex ingredients.

What made it really special though was the enthusiasm of the Ham Yard team for Rathfinny. They are a really professional group of people, with exceptionally high standards and they were a pleasure to work with. We look forward to welcoming them all, along with our other partners in the trade, to come and pick grapes when we start harvest in October.

From London, our next adventure is our trip to Hong Kong at the end of the month. We are launching both of our Sussex Sparkling wines into the market there, with the support of our distributors, Jebsons Fine Wines. The aim, as in England, is to have our wine sold in the very best restaurants and wine outlets, although there are people who prefer to live in London, and if you’re one of these people you can even Find a London Roommate Here so is even easier to settle in this city. For me, it’s particularly exciting as it’s a chance to go home and see my ever-growing family. I now have two great nieces, Emmeline and Luciana, and one great nephew, Wolf (yes, Wolf though lovingly known as Wolfie) living in Hong Kong alongside my extended family and it is always wonderful to be ‘home’. My children are always slightly horrified that I seem to revert to being a teenager almost as soon as I land, but I have promised to be on my best behaviour this time around!

The Tasting Room Restaurant is going very well here in Sussex. So well in fact that I couldn’t book a table for lunch on Sunday – I have no clout whatsoever! Chris Bailey and his team continue to serve up delicious locally sourced food and the feed-back has been great. We’re getting bookings up to Christmas which is obviously lovely.

Please note that we are closing however over harvest. We’ve got a bumper crop and, as the Restaurant is set in the Winery itself, in the heart of the Estate, the area outside will be very busy. All is not lost however as the Flint Barns (at the end of Estate) will be open for tastings and lunches – think delicious ‘home away from home’ food rather than fine dining (those of you who come to our sell-out Sunday lunches can vouch for it) – and will act as our Cellar Door during this time. As we don’t know the exact dates of harvest we are operating a ‘waiting list’ of people who want to come and eat in October and we will be in touch when we know the restaurant is re-opening. Please email us on tastingroom@rathfinnyestate.com to register your interest for October bookings.
