After another stint of sailing we are both back and getting used to life on dry land. It’s not hard to do with all this lovely weather we are having. Look how well the vines and grapes are doing …
It was full on last weekend with Alfest, the festival that showcases Sussex food and wine along with music on the Tye in our local village, Alfriston. We sponsored and set this up last year together with our award-winning neighbours, Longman Brewery and the Star Inn . It was an absolutely fantastic day with delicious food, great drinks, nice people both local and from afar all to a backdrop of folk, jazz, pop and rock music. It also raised much needed money for our local St Andrew’s Church restoration fund, the ‘Cathedral of the South Downs’. There are too many people to thank individually but Georgia, Millie, Tom from the Longman and Julie and Nicki from the Star deserve special mention as the organisers who managed the whole thing brilliantly.
It’s lovely to engage with our local community who have all been so supportive of what we are doing at Rathfinny and to get a chance to actually have a chat. We released our new 2016 Cradle Valley still wine on the day, which went down a storm and our gin, Seven Sisters, served as a ‘Sisters and Tonic’ with a twist of orange peel was another hit. One pair of gin aficionados told us they collect gin from around the world and ours is their favourite!!
I hope to see you around over the summer – let’s hope the weather lasts!
PS – Tasted a truly delicious Chardonnay this week – beautifully balanced and full of flavour – Restless River, 2015
