“Blanc de Noirs is the wine I always dreamed of making. I love the incredible colour, texture and complexity of Pinot Noir sparkling wines, especially when aged for a long time on the lees.
When we established Rathfinny in 2010 as a grower-producer, we set out on a journey to craft world-class sparkling wines from Sussex. I believe this Blanc de Noirs 2020, made in limited quantities from our finest hand-harvested fruit, showcases our progress. It captures our sense of place with a low-dosage style that lets the purity of our fruit and chalk terroir shine through.
Found in some of the world’s finest restaurants, this vintage embodies our commitment to exceptional quality and passion for Pinot Noir-driven sparkling wines. I hope you enjoy it.” Mark Driver, Rathfinny Co-owner
A rose-gold hue delivers a nose of red fruits and a mouthwatering palate of pear and plum, with a long ripe cherry finish.
This fruit-driven wine would match perfectly with a plate of charcuterie, Asian-style crab cakes or venison. This vintage can withstand and complement spice and richer flavoured dishes.
“…This is a glorious wine that sits alongside any overseas creations. It is plush, silky, layered and effortlessly classy while maintaining a freshness and crunch on the finish thanks to its lip-smacking 3g/l dosage.” Matthew Jukes, Vineyard Magazine
The 2020 growing season got off to an early start with warm weather prompting budburst in some clonal areas from 12th April. Spring comprised of very little rainfall with the driest May ever recorded in England. Flowering was completed by 27th June.
The settled weather then gave way to challenging conditions in July with high winds and rain. We recorded a lower yield per vine, ensuring there was an ideal ripeness and composition across all varietals come veraison. The fruit quality matched that of the well documented 2018 vintage.
The majority of our Blanc de Noirs is sold on allocation to some of the world’s finest restaurants and wine merchants. Each vintage, we also set aside some cases each exclusively for our Rathfinny Reserved Wine Club. Members are guaranteed six bottles of our Blanc de Noirs and Blanc de Blancs each year, along with access to curated member-only events and a host of other benefits.
