Rathfinny Wine Estate can be found in the Cradle Valley, just to the south of the village. Since we opened our doors, we have been sharing recommendations with our Flint Barns guests on the best things to do in the area.

What to do in Alfriston

Rathfinny is less than two miles from the village. By car, it takes about eight minutes to reach our Flint Barns B&B accommodation and it is also possible to walk to the village in approximately 40 minutes.

Walking in the South Downs

Alfriston – and the Rathfinny Estate – is on the famous South Downs Way and has well-marked footpaths connecting iconic sites in the surrounding areas. Circular walks to the Long Man of Wilmington and an 8-mile loop to the Seven Sisters cliffs mean that those looking for an active holiday have a range of routes. Rathfinny has permissible footpaths across the Estate, giving visitors the chance to explore the 600-acres of Vineyard and chalk grasslands by foot.

The Clergy House: Historic National Trust Property

In 1896, a newly formed National Trust took over its very first property, preserving it for the nation: The Alfriston Clergy House. The doors for this fascinating and picturesque 14th-century cottage are still open to the public today. With idyllic views across the River Cuckmere, ‘Arts & Crafts’ style garden rooms and an ancient orchard, the house is the perfect place to while away an hour or two. Open Fridays and Saturdays, from 10:30 to 16:30.

Set in a historic building just off the main high-street in Alfriston, lose sense of time in this characterful independent bookstore. The Tasting Room

The Tasting Room is our Winery restaurant headed up by renowned Estate Executive Chef Chris Bailey, who immediately secured recognition for the Tasting Room in the Michelin Guide within its first year.

Set in the Winery with stunning Vineyard views, the restaurant offers a relaxed yet refined dining experience. Its sharing-style menu makes it the perfect place for friends and family to come together and enjoy the finest British bounty.

The menu celebrates exceptional produce from the land and sea, perfectly paired with our Sussex Sparkling wines. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, with larger plates served until 3.30pm, and small plates until 6pm.

Flint Barns

Located in the heart of the Rathfinny Wine Estate, the Flint Barns is our restaurant with rooms and offers a plethora of wholesome, comforting dinners from Wednesday to Saturday.

The talented chefs create exceptional, produce-led dishes which are served in a comfortable setting that invites visitors to unwind and savour classic British food. Only the finest seasonal ingredients are used, with each dish perfectly complementing Rathfinny’s exquisite Sussex Sparkling wines.

Serving light bites, freshly baked cakes, and a wide variety of other daily refreshments from local suppliers, The Hut is Rathfinny’s diverse al fresco wine bar, located front and centre on the Estate.
