It’s true that in Britain we drink around 100 million cups of tea a day, but we’re also consuming more English Sparkling Wine than ever before! Both are a splendid accompaniment to an afternoon tea, combining tradition with new tastes and experiences. This year, Afternoon Tea Week runs between Monday 8th to 14th August so here are some of our recommendations of where to enjoy a sparkling afternoon tea.
The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel
We recently popped into The Cadogan and were blown away by their new afternoon tea called Maison Lounge. Freshly prepared each day by Head Pastry Chef, Pierre Morvan and his team, the experience is opulent and elegantly presented on an ornate golden cake tier. Perfect for a special occasion, the menu includes classic finger sandwiches filled with honey roast ham, cucumber and dill and roast beef and horseradish, followed by scones and exciting sweet treats including sunflower and lime cheesecake and elderflower and grapefruit tart. The afternoon tea is paired with an optional glass or bottle of Rathfinny. A vegan menu is also available.
Available seven days a week, an afternoon tea at Luton Hoo is everything you’d expect from traditional luxury hotel service. Rich in history, the afternoon tea is served in the Mansion House Lounges including the Italianate Drawing Room with views of the surrounding gardens, once designed by Capability Brown. What’s on the menu? A selection of sandwiches including Severn and Wye oak smoked salmon and roast picanha of British beef, cave aged Cheddar cheese and chive quiche, scones and an assortment of cakes and pastries such as dark chocolate and coffee opera cake and mango panna cotta. Upgrade to a Sussex Sparkling afternoon tea to enjoy a glass of our Classic Cuvée. Vegan, gluten free and children’s options are available.
Townhouse at The Kensington
The Great British Summer Afternoon Tea with Rathfinny Pairing Experience is now served at The Kensington. Journey through a menu of sweet and savoury delights, celebrating the best of British and paired with two glasses of Sussex Sparkling. The Classic Cuvée matches perfectly with coronation chicken sandwiches and Colston Bassett Stilton and broccoli quiche, whilst the Rosé is destined to be enjoyed with the strawberry tart and lavender crème mousseline filled macaroon.
Afternoon tea experiences are at the heart of all Firmdale Hotels. Visit Brasserie Max at Covent Garden Hotel to discover a delicious Royal Afternoon Tea, enjoy Refuel’s ‘Best of British’ menu at The Soho Hotel, sweet treats and savoury delights await in Brumus at Haymarket Hotel or a traditional afternoon tea with contemporary flair at Ham Yard Restaurant. Take your pick – you won’t be disappointed!
Fairmont Windsor Park
The Orchid Tea Room at Fairmont Windsor Park is a truly unique space to enjoy an afternoon tea, paying homage to the original owner’s love of orchids that they collected from around the world. On the menu they have coronation chicken sandwiches, prawn and crayfish tartlets, scones tea cakes and sweet treats such as caramella and milk chocolate éclair and citrus tart. Here you’ll find a glass of our Classic Cuvée or Rosé to pair. We’d suggest a walk around the nearby Windsor Great Park afterwards. Vegetarian and vegan options available.
