Rise and shine with a beautiful morning walk around the Rathfinny Estate, followed by coffee and pastries at The Hut.
Your guide will be Richard James, resident wildlife expert at Rathfinny. Richard will take you on an easy-going, educational walk and talk about the biodiversity in the Cradle Valley where our vineyard resides. You will learn about Rathfinny’s sustainability efforts and hopefully experience the sights and sounds of nature thriving in this beautiful part of the South Downs.
Dogs are very welcome on a lead and we will have some little treats for them too!
Experience Overview
The walk begins at the Winery, where free parking is available. After a short introduction from Richard, you will head out on a circular route of the estate. Along the way, there will be chance to hopefully hear birdsong and learn about the work we’ve been doing with the National Trust to conserve chalk grassland habitats. There will be moments to take in panoramic vineyard views from interesting vantage points and learn how inter-row planting has increased biodiversity.
In 2023, Rathfinny became the world’s first single-site sparkling wine estate to achieve B Corp certification, recognising our commitment to balancing exceptional wine with responsible business practices. ‘Nurturing the Land’ is one of the guiding pillars for our environmental stewardship. It’s all about protecting and regenerating biodiversity, chalk soils and habitats, while pursuing low-impact and sustainable viticulture.
This event takes place close to International Dawn Chorus Day which is a worldwide celebration of birdsong – best enjoyed at its peak in early May.
