Richard’s blog…

On Friday 21st June, I travelled out of my jurisdiction up to the wonderful city of Leeds.

Rathfinny were invited to show our recently launched 2015 Blanc de Noirs and our 2016 Rosé sparkling wines by Harvey Nichols. Not an invite to turn down. It was with much excitement that I boarded the choo choo as I knew this was a great opportunity to show case our current wines to a new audience.

On arrival to this splendid department store it was fantastic to see our wines proudly holding court on the top tier of the display stand in the middle of the wine section on the 4th Floor. The tasting itself was ‘outside’ in the glass ceilinged arcade to one side of this iconic building.

I know I am bias (shock horror), but I was quietly confident that our wines would show well – they didn’t disappoint and hit the ground running to flaunt their fruit and Sussex sparkles to the guests. The one downside – my table was not wide enough so I could only talk to two guests at a time, so one of the main introductory comments was “at last we’ve managed to get to your table to try the wines everyone is talking about”.

Under the bright clear sky with the sun going down I thought the Rosé would hold court as it’s truly a glass of Sussex summer but as I thought the Blanc de Noirs, with its sumptuous darker fruits stood up to the challenge from its pinker bed fellow and in the end it was a 50/50 split between which of our wines was the guests favourite.

The evening drew to a close with our wines consumed and many orders placed with the staff of Harvey ‘Nics’ and I for one had a big smile on my face. Alas my smile was from a fantastic evening showing our wines and chatting to the guests rather than from the consumption of sparkling wine!

Thanks so much to the team at Harvey Nichols Leeds for their hospitality and we look forward to building upon our partnership.
