Cam’s blog…

I must have missed the “Dealing with a global pandemic and impacts on your business” training day, but I’m glad that I’m not the only one.

As the coronavirus crisis worsens, and we have more and more restrictions put on our daily lives, there is always one thing we can look forward to: the constancy of nature. The sun will always rise and set and each day brings us further into the year as the seasons change.

With the current warm spell everything in the Vineyard is beginning to wake up. The sap is flowing and buds are beginning to turn into shoots whilst the weeds are starting to grow prolifically.

In a time when everything seems uncertain, the Vineyard keeps on keeping on. In the farming part of the business, we have been able to keep all our staff in employment and busy too! The pruning and tying down is now complete thanks to an extra big push from everyone in the last couple of weeks, just in time for the weather to warm up. Big thanks to all those involved.

It’s not been easy but with changes to our methodologies and working practices we are able to keep to social distancing guidelines. How we work together as a team has become even more paramount. This is new territory for us all, and an opportune time for everyone to consider where our food (and wine) comes from. Someone still has to tend those fields, glasshouses, trees and vines while all this craziness is going on. Nature doesn’t stop for human enforced restrictions.
