Hello everyone, it’s my favourite season of the year, spring is just around the corner and so is the opening of the fabulous Flint Barns. I’m super excited to be able to tell you all that our first weekend of opening will be 27th & 28th February. To begin with the Flint Barns will be open only on the weekends or during the week for large groups or exclusive hire. All of our meals are home cooked, prepared and made on site, and the ingredients are locally sourced where possible. All of our meat comes from the Downland Butchers in East Dean, a family run company and of course we have to serve their sausages, which just keep on winning awards! The rest of your plate is covered by Dymock Farm, just over the hill from the Estate, which supplies our vegetables and eggs. Further local goodies come from Deerview Jams which are just up the road and their marmalade is mouth-watering. Our resident chef prepares all evening meals for service around 7.30pm so groups can eat together – the Flint Barns really are ‘a home away from home.’
Once replete, while the evenings are still cool, you can snuggle into a comfy sofa in our lounge beside the wood burning stove and play a board game or peruse the eclectic mix of books available. When the days and nights are warmer you have the option of relaxing outside in our courtyard to discuss your day’s adventures or simply just to marvel at the vast expanse of stars in the evening sky (please politely note that Rathfinny cannot commit to 100% clear skies throughout the year!)
Further exciting news is that the Rathfinny Trail will be opening on the May Bank Holiday and so will the Flint Barns Café, for users of the Trail, serving ‘Vineyard Lunches’ of seasonal dishes and freshly made salads as well as ‘Tipsy Teas’ with homemade fruit scones, fantastic strawberry jam, clotted cream and a glass of chilled sparkling wine as well. Also we will be offering freshly made pizzas cooked in our authentic pizza oven – I for one will be there!
